#16 Great Ocean Road – Australia

The Great Ocean Road deserves its own spot on my bucket list.  The drive itself is incredible with ample viewing platforms along the way for some truly remarkable rock formations.

Due to the rain/windy weather, we headed straight for Port Campbell for lunch.   The Arch was the 1st attraction we viewed on the way back to the Twelve Apostles. Here is a quick clip and a few pictures from the viewing deck.

The London Arch (formally London Bridge before a piece fell off into the ocean and stranded some unexpected tourists in 1990.  Luckily the two tourists stranded were rescued by helicopter hours later.

Next we arrived at The Grotto which is sort of a carved out cave.  There is a walkway that leads from the top of the viewing deck down to where you can get a good look at the ocean through the carved out hole.  This was my second favorite stop after the Twelve Apostles of course. It could possibly be due to the fact the sun started to peak out from behind the clouds.

Finally, we stopped at the Loch Ard Gorge before racing to the Twelve Apostles to catch the sunset.  The girls enjoyed playing on the white sandy beach and rocks formations during this stop.

I dedicated an entire post to the Twelve Apostles but I cannot post about the Great Ocean Road without at least leaving one picture.  Breathtaking!
