New Plymouth, New Zealand was never on my radar as a must see destination; however, we had a long Labour Day weekend to see a new place. This area should not be left out though as it is one of my favorites now. No wonder Lonely Planet named the Taranaki one of the world’s top regions to visit in 2017. The New Plymouth Coastal Walkway and Mount Taranaki are two big reasons to see this area.
The Coastal Walkway is a ten kilometer path and enjoys stunning ocean views for a majority of the ride. We started our bike trip at the Len Lye Wind Wand.
We continued along the walkway only stopping to enjoy the view.
Finally, we made it to the Te Rewa Rewa bridge which famously frames Mt. Taranaki. We could not have planned a more stunning day for pictures.
The path curves around towards the beach with breathtaking views of Mt. Taranaki on our right side.
The route ended for us once we found the beach again. A short break to play around on the rocky beach before heading back to our starting point.
The return trip proved to be successful in tiring out our girls. My youngest almost made it the entire bike ride before falling asleep. Thank goodness for the ride along toddler seat for my bike!
